In short
To be ready for UAE e-invoicing, confirm your go-live date, appoint an accredited service provider, clean customer and supplier data, fix VAT coding, map invoice fields, bring all invoicing into one system, test with your provider, train staff, plan cut-over and reconcile e-invoices to VAT after go-live.
UAE e-invoicing goes live on 1 January 2027 for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more and on 1 July 2027 for others in scope. Most of the work is not technical: it is getting your data, VAT coding and invoicing habits right before invoices start flowing electronically. Use this checklist with your finance team. For the full timeline and how ZS helps, see our e-invoicing service.
The checklist
- Confirm your go-live date. Revenue of AED 50 million or more: 1 January 2027. Below that: 1 July 2027. Check each legal entity separately.
- Appoint an accredited service provider. The deadline was 30 October 2026 for the first group and is 31 March 2027 for everyone else.
- Clean customer and supplier data. Legal names, addresses and tax registration numbers must be complete and correct for every active account.
- Fix VAT coding. Standard rated, zero rated, exempt and out of scope lines should use consistent codes in your accounting system.
- Map invoice fields. Discounts, currencies, credit notes, advance payments and multi-line invoices all need a defined place in the e-invoice format.
- Bring invoicing into one system. Stop raising invoices in spreadsheets or word processors outside the accounting system.
- Check intra-group invoices. Transactions within a VAT tax group are excluded for 24 months from 1 January 2027 under Ministerial Decision 197 of 2026; other related party invoices are not.
- Test with your provider. Send test invoices, credit notes and unusual cases before go-live, and fix every rejection.
- Train the people who raise invoices. Sales and operations staff need to get the invoice right first time, not leave it for finance to correct.
- Reconcile after go-live. For the first months, compare e-invoice data with the VAT return and the ledger before each filing.

Frequently asked questions
How long does e-invoicing readiness take?
It depends mainly on the state of your data and accounting system. Data clean-up and VAT coding usually take longer than the technical connection, so start with steps 3 and 4.
Do I need a new accounting system?
Not necessarily. Many systems connect through an accredited service provider. Check compatibility before you appoint one.
Are VAT group transactions included?
Transactions within a VAT tax group are excluded for 24 months from 1 January 2027 under Ministerial Decision 197 of 2026.
